From the first stirring of a spring to the magical splendour of an enchanted lake, this concert follows an imaginative journey through water. Smetana’s The Moldau opens the way: a river emerges, winds its course and grows, while the orchestra shimmers with colours evoking forests, villages and lively currents. At the heart of the journey, Sibelius’s Violin Concerto surges like an inner torrent, with Andrew Wan unfolding a solitary, passionate lyricism shaped by silences and surges. Following the world premiere of a work by Cassandra Miller, the journey concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, sparkling with orchestral brilliance. The river becomes a lake: a place of magic, dance and light. This concert is also presented in a matinée version.
