Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 8, 2026

GatinApp helps people discover events and activities in Gatineau and the Outaouais region. GatinApp is owned and operated by Totally Normal Corporation Inc. (Compagnie Totalement Normale Inc.), a corporation incorporated in Canada ("we", "us" or "our").

This Privacy Policy applies to GatinApp in all its forms: the website, the mobile applications, and any other technology we operate now or may operate in the future under the GatinApp name (collectively, the "Service"). It explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we may share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights available to you.

By using GatinApp, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before collecting, using or disclosing certain personal information.

1. Information we collect, and why

Every piece of information we collect exists to make a specific part of the Service work. Here is what we collect when you use GatinApp, and what it is for:

  • Account and profile information — such as your name, username and email address — so you can sign in, recover your account and reset your password. Optional details — your city, neighbourhood, postal code or a saved address — and your settings, such as notification, language, search and distance preferences, along with the events you like or save and the membership cards you select, are used only to personalize your experience: finding your favourites again, showing the Service in your language and surfacing what is relevant to you.
  • Location information — such as your approximate or precise location, your city, neighbourhood, postal code, address or an address you choose to save, when you provide this information or allow the app to access it — so we can show you what is happening near you: calculating distances, sorting results, and suggesting nearby events and activities. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable, though some proximity features may be limited.
  • Content you choose to submit — such as event or activity listings, places, descriptions, comments, reviews or photographs, where the Service offers these features — so we can display it on the Service, which is what you're asking us to do when you publish it.
  • Notification information — such as your device's push notification token, if you enable notifications — used only to deliver the notifications you asked for. Without this token, your device cannot receive them.
  • Technical and security information — such as device type, operating system, IP address, technical identifiers and activity logs — so the Service runs reliably, so we can find and fix bugs, and so we can protect your account and the Service against abuse and intrusions.

In short: we collect only what the Service needs to work and to be useful to you. We do not collect personal information in order to sell it or use it for advertising.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect only to run the Service and make it useful to you. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Create your account and let you sign in securely.
  • Remember your preferences and favourites so you find them again from one visit to the next.
  • Calculate the distance between you and certain events, places or activities, show relevant content based on your location, and improve local search and discovery results.
  • Display the content you choose to publish on the Service.
  • Send you the notifications and alerts you chose to receive — and only those.
  • Keep the Service reliable, secure and fast, including by spotting outages and bugs.
  • Respond to your support requests, including account or data deletion requests.
  • Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms, where applicable.

3. Analytics and diagnostic tools

To understand how well the Service is working and where to improve it, we may use analytics and diagnostic tools such as Google Analytics and Sentry. In practical terms, these tools help us understand how the Service is used overall (for example, which features are most useful), measure performance, catch errors before they affect you, improve security and fix technical problems. These tools may collect certain technical information, such as device type, operating system, pages or screens viewed, interactions with the Service, error logs, IP address or technical identifiers.

We do not use these tools to sell your personal information to advertisers.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The website and certain third-party tools may use cookies, device or local storage identifiers, or similar technologies. They serve practical purposes: keeping you signed in from one page to the next, remembering your preferences so you don't have to re-enter them, measuring how the Service is used, improving performance and protecting the Service against abuse. We do not use them to track you for behavioural advertising or to sell your personal information to advertisers. You can generally control or delete cookies through your browser or device settings; some features of the Service may stop working properly as a result.

5. Public content

Some features of the Service let you publish content that is visible to others, such as event listings, activities, places, reviews or photographs, sometimes shown with your username. Any content you choose to publish may be seen by other users and, depending on the feature, by the public. We recommend that you not include, in anything you publish, personal information you don't want made public, and that you only publish another person's address or information with their permission, as set out in our Terms and Conditions.

6. Notifications

If you enable notifications, your device or platform may generate a push notification token that allows GatinApp to send notifications to your device. You can turn off notifications at any time in the app, where that option is offered, or in your device settings.

7. When we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.

Like most online services, we rely on a few technical partners to operate. We may therefore share limited information, only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: with providers or partners who help us operate the Service — this is what makes it possible, for example, to host the app, deliver your notifications or spot outages. This includes cloud hosting, databases, analytics services (such as Google Analytics), error diagnostics and performance monitoring (such as Sentry), push notifications, authentication, security, messaging and technical support. These providers must use the information only to provide their services to us, subject to their own policies and the applicable agreements.
  • Legal reasons: if required to comply with applicable law, a regulation, a legal process or a valid governmental request.
  • Protecting rights and safety: where reasonably necessary to protect our users, our services or our rights.
  • Business transfer: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets or other similar transaction, subject to applicable law.

8. Data retention

We do not keep your information "just in case". We keep it only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy: providing the Service, keeping it secure, meeting our legal obligations, resolving disputes and enforcing our agreements.

If you ask us to delete your account, we will make reasonable efforts to delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, unless we need to keep certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention or legitimate business record-keeping purposes.

9. Your rights, account deletion and your choices

Subject to applicable law, you may: request access to the personal information we hold about you; ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate or incomplete; withdraw your consent to its use or disclosure; and request the deletion of your account and the personal information linked to it.

You can request the deletion of your account by writing to us at info@totallynormal.io. If a deletion option is offered in the app, you can also use it. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before processing your request. Certain information may be kept where the law requires or permits it, or where reasonably necessary for security, fraud-prevention or compliance purposes.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the relevant privacy regulator, including the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

10. Data security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the Internet and no method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious harm, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or from children who have not reached the age required to consent under applicable law. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information inappropriately, please contact us and we will look into it.

12. Third-party services and links

The Service may rely on third-party services or contain links to third-party websites, apps or event sources, including app distribution platforms such as the Apple App Store or Google Play. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any information.

13. Processing outside Québec and Canada

Depending on the services used to operate GatinApp, your information may be processed or stored outside Québec, including elsewhere in Canada, in the United States or in other countries where our service providers operate. Where this applies, we take reasonable steps to ensure that appropriate protections are in place for that processing.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, for example through the app, on our website or by any other appropriate means. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

15. Contact us
