John Williams et Rachmaninov

Although best known for his film music, John Williams is also one of the most prolific concerto composers of our time. His Trumpet Concerto brilliantly showcases this dazzling instrument, performed here by virtuoso Matilda Lloyd. The suite from the film Far and Away bridges European traditions by drawing on the sounds of Irish music. Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony shares with Williams’s music an immediately moving language of long, memorable melodies and profound Romantic nostalgia. Considered the composer’s masterpiece, it ranks among the last great symphonies of late Romanticism, achieving a remarkable balance of accessibility, expressive richness and musical complexity.
