Variations énigmatiques

Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations unfold a world where intimacy blends with grandeur: each variation sketches a portrait of a dear friend of the composer, in music of rare elegance where tenderness meets orchestral splendour. The work’s hidden theme remains a closely guarded secret, continuing to spark the imagination more than a century later. Edgar Moreau brings his passion to Henri Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain…, a modern, poetic gem of the cello repertoire. The orchestra takes on refined colours as the soloist moves between virtuosity and meditation. Under the direction of Roderick Cox, the programme also shines with Valerie Coleman’s Umoja, a vibrant anthem to unity inspired by African rhythms, jazz and classical music.
