Dream Requiem

Rufus Wainwright’s Dream Requiem reinvents the tradition of great masses for the dead with a visionary force. The solemn liturgical text is paired with “Darkness,” Lord Byron’s 1816 poem in which the world collapses following a climate catastrophe. It offers a powerful reflection on collective grief, the urgent need for solidarity, and the necessity of human and social transformation. Narrated by Rufus Wainwright himself, this monumental work receives its Canadian premiere with the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Chœur Métropolitain, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal and soprano Angel Blue, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. An encounter between poetry and music that questions our times and carries forward the tradition of the great requiems.
