What becomes of the spirit of Viennese Classicism when it reinvents itself? This program explores its legacy and transformations. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17, one of his most luminous works, is brought to life by the sensitivity of Louis Lortie, a leading figure in Quebec’s piano scene. Haydn’s Symphony No. 44, “Mourning,” delves into striking gravity, revealing the depth of his musical language. In Pulcinella, Stravinsky transforms Baroque echoes into a sparkling neoclassical ballet, illuminated by imagination under the direction of Louis Langrée. Schnittke plays with shadows of the past in Moz-Art à la Haydn, blending fragments, quotations and playful allusions in an inventive score.
