For the Orchestre symphonique de Laval’s opening concert of the 2026–2027 season, conductor Adam Johnson has chosen a spirited and passionate program. The concert begins with Faust Overture, Op. 46, by German composer Emilie Mayer (1812–1883). Next comes Edward Elgar’s (1857–1934) Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, performed by Laval-born cellist Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy, who appeared alongside the orchestra at Laval’s 60th anniversary celebrations at Place Bell in August 2025. The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky’s (1840–1893) Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64, showcasing the orchestra’s full range of colours. Premiered in 1888, it quickly became the composer’s most beloved orchestral work.
