Host, author and journalist Émilie Perreault, who has become a “professional spectator” over the years, takes to the stage for the first time to explain how much she would rather… not be there! This “metaphysical feel-good” solo explores the fundamental role of the audience: why do we sit in a theatre to be told something that isn’t true? Why do we need it? La suspension consentie de l’incrédulité draws on two of her essays, Faire œuvre utile and Service essentiel : comment prendre soin de sa santé culturelle. Perreault revisits memorable performances and stories from people she has encountered along the way as a spectator. Mary Poppins rubs shoulders with Robert Lepage and Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, while Patrick Watson’s music and the lip-sync contests of Club des 100 watts are never far away.
