Place des Arts | Rigoletto | Giuseppe Verdi - Opéra de Montréal

This new production of Rigoletto unleashes the full theatrical power of Verdi. The third-act quartet—one of the most celebrated moments in the repertoire—brings together Matthew White, Sarah Dufresne, Etienne Dupuis and Rose Naggar-Tremblay. Directed by François Racine, the opera powerfully revisits this story based on Victor Hugo’s Le Roi s’amuse, where passion, domination and corrupted justice collide. A bitter jester serving a dissolute duke, Rigoletto believes himself safe… until the violence he has fuelled turns against him. Gilda, the daughter he jealously keeps hidden from the world, falls in love with that same duke, unaware of his true nature. Manipulation, betrayal and revenge draw father and daughter into a tightening spiral towards a cruel fate, where even the purest love offers no refuge. Performed in Italian with French and English surtitles.
