In this play by Michel Tremblay, Germaine Lauzon, a Montreal housewife, wins a million trading stamps. Before she can exchange them for household items, the stamps must be glued into booklets, so she invites her friends, neighbours and sisters to a stamp-pasting party. As Germaine dreams of everything she will get, the other women become increasingly jealous of her good fortune. Les Belles-Sœurs explores the fine lines between hardship and humour, belonging and loneliness, honesty and rudeness, desire and impropriety, goodwill and bitter jealousy.
