Les Belle Soeurs

Les Belles-Soeurs, by Michel Tremblay, directed by Ben McLean. Germaine Lauzon, a Montreal housewife, catches the first break of her life by winning a million trading stamps. Before she can exchange them for household items from a catalogue, the stamps must be glued into booklets, so she invites her friends, neighbours and sisters to a stamp-pasting party. As Germaine dreams about everything she will get, the other women grow increasingly resentful of her good fortune. The play explores the fine lines between hardship and humour, belonging and loneliness, honesty and rudeness, desire and impropriety, goodwill and bitter jealousy.
