Hamlet

A group of people with Down syndrome takes to the stage to share their desires and frustrations through a free adaptation of Hamlet. The production brings Shakespeare’s text into dialogue with the performers’ lives, taking as its starting point the question: “To be or not to be?” What does it mean “to be” for those who cannot find spaces where they are not considered different? The production questions the place given to people with Down syndrome in a world where efficiency, productivity and unattainable standards of consumption and beauty define what it means to be human. Performed in 20 countries and 51 cities, with surtitles in 11 languages, Teatro La Plaza’s Hamlet will be presented at Le Diamant in Spanish with French surtitles.
