Winter 2009. Iannicko N’Doua, then a theatre student, arrives in Côte d’Ivoire. Waiting for him are a father and siblings he has barely known, or never known at all. Between Sainte-Thérèse and Abidjan, the contrast is striking. How can he bridge the distance, suspend judgment and forget 20 years of absence? Iannicko N’Doua’s first play is directed by his longtime collaborator Marc Beaupré. Moving beyond the clichés so often imposed on Africa, Neige sur Abidjan is an intimate work that renews the genre of autofiction by blurring the boundaries between past and present experience. The production blends bursts of laughter, anger, emotional shocks, flashes of awareness and coupé-décalé dance moves. A co-production by Orange Noyée and the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui. Running time: 75 minutes, without intermission. A discussion with the artists will follow the performance.
