Festive Cantatas: Gloria with Vivaldi & Bach

Inspired by Vivaldi’s work with young people at Venice’s Ospedale della Pietà, this concert brings together the Vancouver Youth Choir and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, directed by Alexander Weimann, to perform Gloria, RV 589, in a celebration of light and joy. Soprano Len Torrie and mezzo-soprano Georgia Burashko join them. The programme also features two Bach cantatas: the abundantly jubilant Jauchzet Gott, BWV 51, and Ich habe genug, BWV 82a, which expresses the quiet joy of having seen the light, as found in the Song of Simeon. A pre-concert chat takes place at 2:15 pm with Alexander Weimann, Len Torrie and Georgia Burashko, hosted by David Gordon Duke. Concert runtime: approximately 80 minutes, plus interval.
