Handel’s La Resurrezione with PBO

The Pacific Baroque Orchestra, directed by Alexander Weimann, performs Handel’s La Resurrezione, HWV 47, with five soloists: Emma Fekete, Jacqueline Woodley, Cecilia Duarte, James Reese and Jonathan Wood. Written in 1708 when Handel was just twenty-three, the work explores the Passion and Resurrection of Christ through the operatic styles and languages of his time. The story is framed by a struggle between heaven and hell, personified by an angel and Lucifer. The soloists are joined by orchestral forces featuring trumpets, oboes, recorders, flute, bassoon, strings, gamba, harpsichord and theorbo. Approximate runtime: 90 minutes, with intermission.
