For ten years, Manon Brassard has lived shut away at home, unable to move beyond the horrific tragedy that struck her family. Despite her sister Carmen’s attempts to shake her out of it, Manon remains trapped in a morbid view of the past and religion. Within these same walls, their parents, Léopold and Marie-Louise, endured an unhappy marriage marked by disappointment and an inability to express their desires and aspirations. Together yet worlds apart, the Brassards give a heartbreaking meaning to the notion of the family unit. In this haunting, intensely musical chamber drama by Michel Tremblay, the ravages of obscurantism and the weight of trauma become a sorrowful legacy passed from one generation to the next… unless a way out is possible. Directed by Henri Chassé, the production features Madeleine Péloquin and Michel Charette as the doomed couple, with Catherine Paquin-Béchard and Rose-Anne Déry as Manon and Carmen.
