Join a radiant, vibrant musical celebration that brings people together while inviting introspection in the intimate setting of the Cinquième Salle. Grèn Sémé reinvents maloya—the traditional music of Réunion Island—by blending it with African pop, dub and electronic music. Featuring Carlo De Sacco’s socially engaged, poetic lyrics in Creole, Grèn Sémé’s concerts unfold as colourful, organic performances that are danceable, modern and immersive. Formed in Montpellier in 2006, the band developed a distinctive sound rooted in the triple-time rhythms of the Indian Ocean: maloya, séga and salegy. Its self-titled debut album came out in 2013, followed by Hors Sol (2016), which received the Académie Charles Cros Coup de cœur award, and Zamroza (2022). Released in April 2024, Maloya Gazé is a sunny, danceable EP revealing the band’s most festive side, with organic maloya made for the dance floor and remixed by DJ Voilaaa, La Dame and Guiss Guiss Bou Bess. Grèn Sémé is currently working on a fourth album, continuing its evolving musical journey while remaining true to free-spirited writing and an activist voice.
