Blending desert blues, Manding traditions and electronic sounds, Djely Tapa raises a powerful, free and committed voice. With Dankoroba, she continues her artistic exploration at the crossroads of Malian and Western cultures, past, present and future. An ambassador of djeliya and a modern singer, Djely Tapa performs in Malinké, Bambara, Khassonké and sometimes French. Her intimate, cosmic show moves between Malian traditions and Afrofuturism. Her songs carry messages of strength, love and hope while echoing feminist and social struggles. Born in Mali into an illustrious family of griots, the Montréal-based singer-songwriter has been immersed in this centuries-old art since childhood. Her first solo album, Barokan, won the 2020 JUNO for World Music Album of the Year. Her second album, Dankoroba, won the 2025 JUNO for Global Music Album of the Year.
