The last quarter of the 20th century brought profound economic changes and major social upheaval to the Mauricie region, particularly Trois-Rivières. Within just a few decades, the city went from being one of Quebec’s major industrial centres to earning the unenviable title of Canada’s unemployment capital. A journalist for five decades, Pierre Saint-Yves witnessed these transformations firsthand. In his talk “Quand l’actualité devient histoire,” he invites you to revisit this period of profound change, which dominated the headlines before becoming one of the most significant chapters in the city’s history. Les Faiseurs d’histoire is a nonprofit organization dedicated to researching and showcasing the history of Trois-Rivières. It brings together historians and history enthusiasts from various backgrounds with decades of combined experience in research, teaching, and the promotion and management of local heritage.
