To mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827), Adam Johnson will conduct the Orchestre symphonique de Laval in a concert devoted entirely to the composer. The evening will open with the Coriolan Overture, Op. 62, celebrated for its power and expressiveness, hallmarks of Beethoven’s heroic style. The OSL has not performed this work since its 1993–1994 season. Concertmaster Antoine Bareil will then perform the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61. The concert will conclude with Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, known as the “Fate” symphony and recognizable from the opening measures of its first movement. An opportunity for everyone to enjoy Beethoven’s creative genius.
