Jonsson traces his family history to explore his Sámi origins and retrace the journey of an Indigenous people largely erased from official Swedish narratives. Both intimate and political, his documentary graphic novel combines autobiography, historical investigation and social criticism. It is the author’s first work to be published in French. During a conversation with the book’s translator, Isabelle Chéreau, Mats Jonsson will discuss the creation of his work, the research behind it, and issues related to memory, identity and the representation of Indigenous peoples in national narratives. The translation challenges specific to the work will also be addressed.
